Simpactor FAQ’s

Back to Simpactor

1.

What type of material is suitable to process with the Simpactor mechanical impact type mills?

Material should be:
Non-sticky
Somewhat friable
Mildly abrasive
No harder than 3 mohs
Feed material should not be hotter than 100dF.

2.

How much free silica can be in my material?

If Tungsten carbide internal impact and wear parts are used (optional abrasion resistive package), 3 to 5% silica may be tolerated. This option should incorporate a metal detector upstream to the mill to protect these Tungsten Carbide parts. If Tungsten Carbide is not selected for internal wear protection other type abrasion resistive parts can be offered. The silica limits on these are 2% for the Simpactor.

3.

How fine can I mill my material? What are the top and bottom size constraints?

The Simpactor can mill down to a range of 300uM (50 mesh) to 45uM dependant on the feed rate, the feed material size (PSD) and the friability of the material.

4.

How much horsepower, KWH use is needed to process my material and for what capacity/feed rate?

The Simpactor 300 installed hp for 25 to 50 TPH depending on material type.

5.

Is my material blown through the Simpactor? If so, what type of auxiliary equipment is needed? Is the auxiliary equipment included with the mill?

The Simpactor can have material blown through in most cases except the smallest 25 hp model requiring no auxiliary equipment. If the material is processed within a gravity feed method, an existing plant nuisance dust collector is needed to remove air venting from the Simpactor cone hopper. Sturtevant can also supply an out-sourced small nuisance dust collector.

6.

Can I mill slurry? If so, what is the range of moisture?

Yes. The material should have a moisture range of 2 to 5% maximum to process best.

7.

How often should I clean the mill? Are the internal parts easily accessed?

Depending on the material, cleaning the mill can range from once a month to never. Some models offer an optional water wash system. The internal parts can be accessed by removing only a few to a dozen bolts. Some models come with quick disconnect clamps and hinged clamp type designs.

8.

Do you offer wash-down or stainless steel designs?

Yes. We offer mild carbon steel design with either enamel or epoxy paint as an option and also have 304 and 316 Stainless Steel designs available.

9.

How quick can we expect delivery?

Delivery under normal circumstances is 12 to 14 weeks after the design and drawings are agreed upon.
