Classification Technology Allows Versatility and Flexibility
Hanover, MA – When a custom blender and manufacturer of dry chemicals needed a single solution for milling five different materials, a mill with simple operation was a top priority. With a range of desired resulting particle sizes from d90 – 70mesh across the varying materials, the manufacturer did not want to lose valuable milling time changing specifications on a machine difficult to operate and customize. The answer became apparent after research, testing, and education provided by Sturtevant, a manufacturer of particle size reduction and air classification equipment.
Given the type of material, the desired particle sizes, and the necessity to change specifications the Powderizer was recommended. The Powderizer is a classifying impact mill that also features air classification technology with flexibility in operation. Extensive testing at Sturtevant’s fully equipped laboratory in Hanover, Massachusetts concluded the Powderizer could mill all five dry chemicals down to the appropriate particle size and proved their grind-ability. With that knowledge, the next step was education focused on the Powderizer’s operation.
The dry chemical manufacturer chose to witness the testing at Sturtevant’s laboratory so had the opportunity to watch the Powderizer in action and get a look inside of the machine to see its internal components. Steve Puleo, Product Manager for Sturtevant, explains that “witnessing tests in person and being able to watch how the machine’s mill the customer’s specific materials provides a better understanding of the process than numbers and data alone.”
Manufacturers with new, or specific, needs often require more than just testing to confirm that their milling goals are possible. Having the choice to witness a test, see a machine in operation, and even viewing the inner workings of a machine can provide the additional confirmations necessary to ensure that all qualifications are satisfied.
