Particle size reduction is used in the corn ethanol industry. Sturtevant’s pin mills can be used to de-germinate/fractionate the whole corn kernel. This pre-milling process increases the protein content of the DDG
by-product used for animal feed increasing its sell value greatly. The bran is also separated off allowing the oil
or bran by-products to be used. What is left is a high starch fraction for more efficient ethanol production.
